Steven Paul McGowen Obituary

Fishers, IN. - Steven Paul McGowen, 78, died peacefully on March 29, 2025, in home hospice in Fishers, Indiana.

Born in Kokomo, Indiana, Steven was the son of the late James McGowen and Sarah "Sally" McGowen. After being diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in early 2019, Steven continued to exhibit his trademark optimism and good humor.

Steven graduated from Kokomo High School in 1966. He met his wife and soulmate of 54 years, Mary Mckee, and was married Dec. 11, 1971. Steven and Mary raised their children in Kokomo, Indiana, where they lived for 22 years. Steven and Mary decided to move to Frankfort, Indiana, to be closer to their son Michael until 2021, when they moved in with their son John, to Fishers, Indiana to battle cancer. Steven dedicated himself to church and family. They were members of Lighthouse Missionary Baptist church in Kokomo, Indiana, for over 20 years. He taught Sunday school there for many years until they moved to Frankfort. There they attended Harmony Baptist Church, where he continued to teach the Bible. He was a devoted husband, father and Christian. He will be remembered for his love of old country music, corny dad jokes, quick wit, keen sense of humor and ability to enliven any gathering. Steven was happiest when he could make others happy. He has never met a stranger and will be dearly missed. His biggest passion was his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Steven is survived by his wife, Mary McGowen, of Kokomo, Indiana, sons, Michael and wife Angie McGowen of Frankfort, Indiana, Duane and wife Lisa McGowen of Junction City, Kansas, and John "Johnny" and wife Elsa Mckee of Fishers, Indiana; daughter, Kimberly Johnson and husband Carlito Cortez of San Antonio, Texas; grandsons, Samuel McGowen, Devin McGowen, Skyler McGowen, Michael McGowen, Steven and wife Alexis McGowen, Durius Johnson, Diego Mckee, Christopher Mckee; granddaughters, Miranda Johnson, S'ade McGowen, Hannah McGowen; great-grandson, Titus McGowen; great-granddaughters, Jayce Ford, Jianna Thomas, Ella Mckee, Aubree McGowen, Alayah McGowen, Kinlee McGowen; brother, James "Billy" and wife Barb McGowen of Greentown, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Steve and wife Kay Mckee of Kokomo, Indiana, Fred and wife Mary Mckee of Kokomo, Indiana, and Tim Mckee of Richvalley, Indiana; niece that was like a daughter, Debbie Day; and many beloved nieces and nephews. They all brought joy and laughter to his life. The family will miss him dearly, but we all know he is in a better place with no suffering, one day we will see him again!

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville.
