Morgan H. Vaux, 92, Greentown, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Howard Regional Health System. He was born July 21, 1918, in Watertown, S.D., to the late Harry W. and Lucille (Lee) Vaux. On Aug. 10, 1968, in Kokomo, he married Fleeta (Pennington) Vaux, who survives.. He graduated from Kenosha High School, Kenosha, Wis., in 1936, and from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis., with a B.S. degree in 1949. He served in Civilian Conservation Camps of the National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service in Wisconsin. After World War II, he worked for the Civil Service at the Naval Electronic Supply Office, Great Lakes, Ill., and later for the Air Force Material Command, Dayton, Ohio, from which he was assigned to Kokomo.. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1939. In 1941, upon receiving a special discharge from the Army, he joined the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) and served in Burma and China until the group disbanded. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in late 1942 and served in the Pacific Theatre until 1945. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star decoration, Presidential Unit Citation and the World War II Victory Medal.. In 1980, Morgan retired from Delco Electronics after 27 years as a senior production and process engineer.. He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 190, life member of V.F.W. Post 1152 and a member of The American Legion Post 6.. He is survived by his wife, Fleeta Vaux; three daughters, Nancy West and husband Gary, Renee Nevins and husband Uriah, and Susan Vaux; a brother, Everett Vaux; stepgrandchildren, Kevin and Jennifer Zody; and also several nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Meredith C. Zody; and a sister, Mary McCloskey.. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Military Rites Team and the U.S. Marines. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.. Memorial contributions may be given to American Volunteer Group.
