Michael Wayne Calhoun, 74, a lifelong Kokomo resident, joined our Lord and Savior on Aug. 13, 2018. Michael was born Dec. 28, 1943, to Lowell Junior and Betty Jo (Masters) Calhoun in Kokomo, Indiana. Michael became the loving husband to Mary Ann (Zook) Bennett on Sept. 29, 1989, in Kokomo.

Mike worked at Continental Steel Corp. He was a Kokomo city firefighter (October 1972 to April 2002), retiring after 29 years. Mike was one of the first certified EMTs in Indiana. Mike was chairman of the Kokomo Firefighters' Christmas parties for the clients of Bona Vista. He had served as a volunteer firefighter on the Indian Heights Fire Department. He also worked as a fire marshal at Chrysler Corp.

Mike restored Kokomo Fire Department's first 10-man, hand-drawn hose cart that came into service in 1882. He co-chaired the restoration of the 1915 Kokomo Fire Department's Ahrens-Fox fire engine. Mike enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing trips to Minnesota and surrounding Indiana lakes. Mike was an avid IU and Kokomo Wildkats fan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lowell Junior and Betty Jo Calhoun.

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Brian (Monica), Curt (Krissy) Bennett, Benjamin Bennett; daughters, Sandra (Betty) Walter, Sherri (Brad) May, Mandi Jo (David) Ingersoll, and Mandy Hollingsworth; brother, Patrick (Kathy) Calhoun; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and his nephew, Scott (Michelle) Calhoun, and niece, Melissa (Kirk) Amos, and several stepnephews and nieces.

Family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. Pastor Michael Rogers will officiate.
