Kokomo - John William (Bill) Salmons, 92, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on July 8, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Assisted Living of Kokomo.
He was born June 27, 1932, to Wade Salmons and Lela (Kelly) Salmons. On Jan. 5, 1951, he married Nita Lindsay, officiated by the Rev. Harry Jones in Forest, Indiana. They were married for 73 years, and she survives.
He was a 1950 graduate of Galveston High School and had a 40-year career at Haynes Stellite, retiring in 1991.
He and his wife, Nita, were lifelong residents of Galveston. They lived on the same family property, where he was born, for over 90 years, and he was a member of the former Galveston United Methodist Church.
In his free time, he enjoyed reading, working the newspaper puzzles, mowing, mushroom hunting, fishing, bowling, coaching his sons' Galveston Little League baseball team and spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his wife, Nita, Bill is survived by his children, David (Carol) Salmons, Daniel (Patricia) Salmons and Scott (Cindy) Salmons; grandchildren, Sara (Ben) Jenkins, Emily (David) Prather, Jason (Leeann) Salmons, Matthew Salmons, Andrew Salmons, Kelly (Brian) Foreit, Wade Salmons and Sarah (Kin) Mak; great-grandchildren, Maddie Jenkins, Livy Jenkins, Ava Prather, Lila Prather, Anna Foreit, Tyler Foreit, Nolan Foreit, Jordan Mulkey and Amber White; great-great-grandchildren, Kaden Dell, and Kennedy White.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Wade Salmons; mother, Lela Salmons; and sisters, Wanda (Gene) Kranz and Betty (Bill) Heino.
The family would like to thank Primrose Assisted Living of Kokomo for their exceptional care over the past 19 months, as well as Paradigm Hospice for their outstanding care during the last month.
A memorial service will begin at noon on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home located in Galveston, with Pastor Doug Benham officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the memorial service.
Burial will be in the Galveston Cemetery, followed by a meal for friends and family hosted by the United in Faith Church of Galveston.
