Kokomo, IN. - Franklin Howard Grimme, 75 years old, of Kokomo, passed away peacefully Wednesday May 27, 2026, in Kokomo. He was born in Elwood, IN, on July 8, 1950, the son of the late Melvin and Lavonia (Vaughn) Grimme. On September 15, 1973, he married his college sweetheart, Cynthia Louise Hoffman, and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2025.

Franklin was a 1968 graduate of Summitville High School where he was a standout basketball player. He graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor's degree, where he met his wife Cindy. He made lifelong friends through membership in Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Franklin proudly served our country in the United States Army Reserves for 34 years and 9 months, and was active in Operation Desert Storm. He received several decorations and awards such as the bronze star medal, national defense service medal, and the commendation medal. He spent the majority of his career working in human resources. Upon retirement, he pursued his passion for coaching and working with young people through various roles across several Howard County schools.

Franklin will be remembered as a genuine person who was never short on jokes. He loved watching sports, especially the sport of basketball. He also spent time managing his farm, and sharing his love of farming with his family. He enjoyed supporting the Green Acres Community through various capital improvements and taking his grandchildren on golf cart rides through the neighborhood.

He is survived by his children, Courtney (Sean) Grimme, Zachary (Kristin) Grimme; grandchildren, Hamptin, Reed, Margaret, Katherine; siblings, Melanie Lister, Randall Grimme; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, Charles Grimme and John Grimme.

In keeping with Frank's wishes, no formal services will be held. Stout & Son Funeral Home - Russiaville Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in Franklin's name to the Wounded Warriors Project. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com.
