Kokomo, IN. - Eugene "Gene" Jack Kostrewa, 75, of Kokomo, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 12:32 p.m.

He was born on April 29, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Eugene George and Mary (Jakes) Kostrewa. On Aug. 29, 1981, he married the love of his life, Janet Tarantino, in Grafton, Wisconsin.

Gene graduated from Grafton High School in 1968, and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin. He spent his career as a dedicated Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial, retiring in 2017 after 32 years of service.

A man of strong faith and deep compassion, Gene was an active member of One Church and devoted much of his time to serving others. He volunteered with organizations including Urban Outreach, We Care, Kokomo Rescue Mission and Courtside Ministry, always seeking ways to uplift his community.

Gene was a proud Green Bay Packers fan and had a deep love for Disney World. He also cherished the friendships he built with his Planet Fitness family. Above all, Gene was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who found his greatest joy in spending time with his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Kostrewa; his children, Melissa Anne (Brian) Kotz and Michael Eugene (Moriah) Kostrewa; and his beloved grandchildren, Karson Michael Kotz and Kennedy Anne Kotz. He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon (Mark) Stalter, Linda Coker and Kristine (Daniel) Simonson; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and two close friends, Jeff Newton and Kareen Dunn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service celebrating Gene's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at One Church, 2734 S. Washington St., Kokomo. Friends are invited to visit with the family following the service until 1 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Urban Outreach at www.kokomourbanoutreach.org.
