Bradenton, FL - Don Raymond Kirkendall, Ph.D., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born April 12, 1941, in Swayze, Indiana, Don grew up on the family farm. He attended Western High School in Russiaville, IN. He studied physical education, mathematics, and statistics at Purdue University, completing his bachelor's (1963) master's (1965) and doctorate (1968).

Don was professor and department head at three universities: the University of Kentucky (1968-1976), Kansas State University (1976-1986), and the State University of New York at Cortland (1986-2001). His knowledge and expertise were evident in published articles and two textbooks that he co-authored on statistics, and measurement and evaluation.

In 1985, Don married Judith (Ramsden) Kirkendall of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and travel. In retirement, they enjoyed time in Falmouth, Massachusetts, and later in Bradenton, Florida, where they eventually made their home on Perico Island.

Don was an avid sports fan throughout his life. Sundays with Judy were reserved for cheering their beloved Patriots. He also had a keen interest in politics and relished thoughtful, spirited conversations.

Don was committed to service and always remained humble. He is remembered for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, and infectious smile. He had a natural ability to make others feel at ease and valued, and he maintained a wide and loyal circle of friends who cherished his warmth and humor.

Don is survived by his wife, Judith (Ramsden) Kirkendall; children Randahl and Melissa with Gloria (Clampitt) Kirkendall; grandchildren, Autumn and Forrest; and sister, Betty Albright. Don's legacy lives through the many lives he touched—as a teacher, mentor, colleague, and friend. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
