Betty Angeline Johnson Sims
Betty Angeline Johnson Sims died peacefully at Aperion Care in Kokomo on Nov. 9, 2018. The daughter of Mack Edward and Cecil Fay Alexander Johnson, Betty was born on Aug. 4, 1920. She was a lifelong resident of Kokomo.
Betty was the wife of Everett Eugene Sims. They were married in Wabash, Indiana, on June 17, 1941. Everett preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1968.
She graduated from Kokomo High School and Kokomo Business College. She was employed at Saint Joseph Hospital for 27 years.
Betty took an active role in her children's schooling, enjoyed traveling and had a special place in her heart for New York City. Also, she had an appreciation for music and was a member of the Kokomo Organ Club. She made friends easily and valued her friendships.
Betty was a dedicated, lifelong member of the Methodist Church, now attending Zion United Methodist Church. She served as president of the United Methodist Women and participated and volunteered in many capacities throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann and son-in-law Philip John Clauss, who resides in Columbia, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Jennifer Alisa (Sean) McGuire, who resides in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Philip Anthony Clauss, who resides in Columbia, South Carolina, Timothy Ashley (Elizabeth) Clauss, who resides in Greenville, South Carolina, and Gregory Allen Clauss, who resides in Woodland Hills, California.
She is survived by eight great-grandchildren, Megan Alexandra McGuire, Mitchell Adam McGuire, Micah Andrew McGuire, Philip Jacob Clauss, Nathaniel Cristiano Clauss, Allison Katie Clauss, Alexander Benjamin Clauss, and Adam Zackary Clauss.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Larry Sims; sisters, Marjorie Miller, Genevieve Brittain and Frances Jackson; stepmother, Valta Rayl Johnson; and many aunts, uncles, sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Betty's memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 19, 2019, at Zion United Methodist Church Chapel. Pastor Jeanne Winter will officiate.
Memorials may be made in Betty Sims name to Zion United Methodist Church, 3916 N. 500 East, Kokomo, IN 46901.
Shirley and Stout Funeral Home has assisted the family with burial arrangements.
