Sally Johnston, 75, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 4, 2017. Born Nov. 12, 1941, in Springdale, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Turney Dey and Goldie Leora (Flick) Montgomery.
Sally graduated from Springdale High School, and then received her bachelor's degree in nursing from West Penn Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated with honors. On May 15, 1965, she married the love of her life, Robert H. Johnston, whom she had originally met while attending Sunday school at the Church of God in Arnold, Pennsylvania. Robert preceded Sally in death on Feb. 11, 2005.
Sally was an active member of the Church of God in Kokomo and participated in the choir. She was also director of the Prayer Chain and taught Sunday school. She had previously served as a youth pastor at her church in Mount Vernon, Indiana.
Sally is survived by her son, Nathan Johnston (Loni Walden), and her niece, Meigan (Russell) Butler.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sally was preceded in death by two sisters, Lola Jane and Mary Irene Montgomery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following. Sally will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery in Kokomo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left to Mental Health America Office of Howard County.
