Richard's Story

Richard Clark "Cowboy" VanTassel, 48, Kokomo, formerly of Corry, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at his home. He was born Dec. 14, 1968, the son of Thomas H. and Jean L. (Betts) VanTassel.
Rich graduated in 1987 from Corry High School. He was an excellent carpenter, honing in on the skills taught to him by his father, Tom, and did the beautiful carpentry work for A-Michaels, the Tin Man, 3-Amigos and Foxes Trail, to name a few, along with lots of custom work. He had been employed with Scott Pitcher through Fortune Management. Rich was an avid hunter and enjoyed bull riding and anything country.
Rich is survived by his parents, Tom and Jean VanTassel, Corry, Pennsylvania; siblings, Jeremy and Sandy VanTassel, Corry, Pennsylvania, and Brittini and Matthew Greer, Corry, Pennsylvania; stepchildren, Kailyn Koontz, Michael Cottrell, and Austen Fouch; half siblings, Jessie Blount, Darcy Blount, and Lacey Blount; nieces and nephews, Jeremy Daniel "JD" VanTassel, Xander Greer, Maddox Greer, and Axel Greer; cousins, Robert "Bobby" Betts, Paula Betts, Vince Tucci, Teresa Tucci, Cindy Metts, Rae Lynn Lees, Joel Nelson and Jess Nelson; aunts and uncles, Jane and Larry Tucci, Pleasantville, Pennsylvania, Robert "Bob" and Laura Betts, Coldwater, Michigan, Carol Sue and Norman Whiteley, Spring Creek, Pennsylvania, and Chuck and Sharon VanTassel, Alvin, Texas.
Rich was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carlotta Wilcox; grandparents, Jane and Howard VanTassel; aunt, Carol Craker; and great-aunt, Julia Decker.
A visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson St.
