Richard "Dick"'s Story
Richard "Dick" Lee Stanley, 83, passed away at 4:57 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, at his home in Saint Petersburg, Florida with his children present. He was born Aug. 29, 1933 in Greentown to Claude William and Mildred Ines (Ault) Stanley.
Dick was a 1951 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended classes at Indiana University Kokomo. He worked at Delco Electronics for 39 years and served in the National Guard for 13 years. He excelled at most sports - playing and refereeing basketball, bowling, shooting pool, playing softball until he was almost 50, golfing into his late 70s. He umpired/refereed every ballgame he watched, whether live or on TV. He earned his Life Master playing Duplicate Bridge.
Surviving are his daughter, Angela Bonsib Stites, Atlanta, Georgia; son, Richard "Rick" Lee Stanley, II (Cindy), Fort Wayne, and one sister, Jean Mullins, Kokomo; five grandchildren, Julie Elizabeth Bonsib, Jennifer Suzanne Smith (Matthew), and Brian Christopher Bonsib, all of Georgia, and Matthew Bryan Stanley and Michelle Elizabeth Stanley, Fort Wayne; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Anthony, Elizabeth Ann, Erik Alexander McGinnis, Bri'Lee Ann Marie Stanley and Lincoln Ray Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters and two brothers, Sharlot Shallenberger, Dorothy Adams, Ann Lerch, Markeeta Fayle, Nancy Crooks, Marilyn Stanley, Robert Stanley, and Claude William "Bill" Stanley; and one great-grandson, Michael McGinnis.
There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2017 at First Church of the Nazarene with cremation and burial in Greenlawn Cemetery at a future date.
