Phyllis's Story

Text size

Phyllis was born in Mier on July 11, 1935 to the late Jesse L. and Eva Gaynell (Haynes) Hale. She peacefully passed away Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, in Visiting Nurse and Hospice, Fort Wayne.
Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Converse High School. Later she worked for General Motors and retired in 1991 after 36 years of service. She also worked for Oak Hill School Corporation as a special needs bus driver aid, a job she enjoyed very much.
In her free time, Phyllis enjoyed feeding the birds, rabbits and watching the squirrels. Her greatest joy was watching all the neighborhood kids playing and growing up-especially one who was always singing his heart out. Phyllis loved all children and she always put everyone first.
Phyllis was a member of the UAW Local 292, Converse Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her brother, Phillip (Jane) Hale, Jonesboro; three nephews and two nieces that she helped raise, Rick A. Ancil, Roger Ancil, both of Converse, Joseph A. Ancil, Kokomo, Gloria Pickering, Kokomo, and Diane Loughridge, Monroe City, Missouri; extended family, Vonna Christie, Kokomo, and Linda Stewart, Columbus, Ohio; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mary; brothers, Jesse Jr. and Robert Lee; and her beloved Bandit.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Larrison-Martin Chapel, 308 E. Marion St., Converse, with Pastor Randy Smoot officiating. The burial will follow in Converse Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, in the funeral home. Eastern Star services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The family would like to thank Vonna Christie, Phyllis Stepler, Angels of Mercy staff, doctors and nurses for all the loving care they gave Phyllis.
