Phillip "Shag" N. Stinefield, 72, Kokomo, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2014 at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 29, 1944 in Alexandria to the late Otto and Frances (Redding) Stinefield. On March 13, 2013, he married Lynda Terry and she survives.
After high school, Shag joined the United States Army. He spent two years in Vietnam serving his country. Shag was very patriotic and enjoyed serving his country. He retired from Chrysler in 2006 after 30 years in skilled Trades. Shag enjoyed NASCAR, golf and hunting. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson in his younger years.
Surviving is his wife Lynda; son, Eldon Stinefield; stepson, Ronnie Mitchell; three stepdaughters, Marietta Coffey, Jennifer Caldwell and Candace Furkus; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Patty) Stinefield; sister, Donna Jean (Joe) Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dave Stinefield, Dale Stinefield and Jim "Pete" Steinfield.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. with Bob Stinefield officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery, 1101 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, with full military rites performed by the United States Army and the Elwood VFW Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m until the time of service on Wednesday, also at the mortuary.
