Pauline's Story

Pauline E. Stites, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 3:22 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017. She was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Elwood, to Clifford and Christina (Bauer) Bohlander. On March 16, 1947, she married Rex L. Stites, who preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1979.
Pauline was a member of Northview Christian Church as well as Miami County's Clay Township Homemaker's Club and Howard County's Howard Township Homemaker's Club. Raising five children, family was paramount to Pauline. She also enjoyed tending a vegetable garden and traveling with friends and family.
She is survived by her children, Ronald L. (Mary) Stites, Kokomo, Mildred A. (Phil) Graber, Iowa, Alan R. Stites, Georgia, James A. (Naomi) Stites, Kokomo, and Robert W. (Carla) Stites, Texas; grandchildren, Marci (Kris) Hasselkus, Peru, Rhonda (Shannon) Rott, Ohio, Daniel (Sylvia) Graber, Iowa, Renee (Luke) Wyse, Texas, Julia (Tim) Wilson, Massachusetts, Aaron Stites, Indianapolis, Jared Stites, Greentown, Jordan Stites, Georgia, Kendel (Felicia) Stites, Kansas, Michael (Ashley) Stites, Kokomo, Graham Stites, Texas, and Shelley Stites, Illinois; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Bohlander; sisters-in-law, Marge Bohlander and Carolyn Bohlander; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Margaret (Ralph) Pratt; brothers, Raymond Bohlander and Donald Bohlander; infant brother, Francis Bohlander; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Graber.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Northview Christian Church, 2059 N. 100 East, with the Rev. Chuck Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Mast-Hensler Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown.
