Michel Dale Vaught, 63, Kokomo, passed away at 8:18 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel. He was born Dec. 4, 1953 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, the son of the late Jack D. and Velma (Garner) Vaught. He married the love of his life, Janet Starkey, on Nov. 3, 1984, in Peru.
Michel was a 1972 graduate of Tri-Central High School, and was the owner and operator of Vaught's Softener Services for the last 17 years. Prior to owning his own business, he worked for Central Water Systems, Slate Mechanical and the Howard County Highway Department.
When he wasn't working, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping, creative pursuits like drawing and inventing, and riding his Harley, Gladys. More than anything, Michel loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He would host large fish fries almost every year at his river house, just so he could get all his loved ones in one place.
Michel is survived by his wife, Janet Vaught; daughters, Jama (Chad) Winger, Crystal (Michael) Keck, Shila Vaught and Ashley Vaught (companion, Joey Brown); son, Brandon (Andrhea) Starkey; grandchildren, Kimberly (Kaleb) Waites, Faith Keck (companion, Tommy Waldman) , Kamren Starkey, Jayden Plotner, Hayley Higginbottom, Jacob Winger, Nolan Starkey, Lacey Starkey, Brayden McCoy and Laelah Vaught; great-granddaughter, Ellie Waldman; several nieces and nephews; he held a special bond with nephew, Brian Vaught; sisters, Wanda (Roger) Lehnus, Donna (Kendall) Hendrickson and Jennie (Jeff) Dillow; mother-in-law, Lela (Gene) Starkey-Miller; and sisters-in-law, Sharon (Darrell) Stiner, Lola Bowley, Lesa Starkey and Shirley Vaught.
Michel was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack G. Vaught; his father-in-law, Dale Starkey; and niece, Dana Browning.
Funeral services for Michel will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road.
