Mary L. Smith, 92, Kokomo, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Feb. 26, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital. She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Folsomville, Indiana, to William Rome and Theota (Leslie) Perigo. On Dec. 24, 1943, Mary traveled to Lansing, Michigan, during World War II to marry J.O. Smith. He passed away Aug. 11, 2008.
Mary was a Folsomville High School graduate. She was a mother, a Proverbs 31 wife, and an excellent seamstress. She, along with J.O., took an active role in church and community events in all communities they served.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita K. (Windell) Stevens, Kokomo; three sons Monte D. (Rita) Smith, Angola, Stanley B. (Amrit) Smith, San Antonio, Texas, Paul J. (Kathy) Smith, Mims, Florida; five grandchildren Shelley Graft, Christy Millen, Sara Steinberg, Grant Smith, Claire Smith; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Rome and Theota Perigo; husband, J.O. Smith; one brother, Rome Homer Perigo; one sister, Lucy Elizabeth Perigo Houghland.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Mark Deckinga officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. CST Sunday, March 5, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
