Mary B. Ratliff, 105, passed away at 11:04 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Primrose Retirement Community in Kokomo. She was born Feb. 23, 1912, in Kokomo, to Pearl B. and Beatrix (Colescott) Miller. On May 1, 1937, she married Francis B. Ratliff, and he preceded her in death Jan. 9, 1986.
Mary graduated from Howard High School and Indiana Central College. She earned her master's degree in education from the University of Cincinnati and worked as a kindergarten teacher, first in Ohio and later in Indiana, before retiring. She was a member of the National Education Association and the 1st Presbyterian Church in Kokomo, where she served as deaconess, sang in the church choir, and played the piano and in the bell choir. She had also served as a church organist in Cincinnati. She volunteered at Howard Regional Health Systems and the Red Cross for over 20 years and received the Indiana Governor's Voluntary Action Program Community Service Award.
She is survived by her sons, Earl Robert (Charlene) Ratliff and Larry David (Kathleen) Ratliff; daughters, Mary (Stephen) Carter and Ruth (Lee) Rosen; grandchildren, Stephanie (Billie) Brown, Jennifer (Matt) Hersh, Kara Lynn (Tracy) Ellis, David James Ratliff, Brian Benjamin (Lynda) Carter, Kimberly Ann (Kevin) Passmore, Lea Kai (William) Galione, Jared Alan (Charline) Rosen and Michael Joseph (Lilly) Rosen; and great-grandchildren, Charleen Lasockie, Stephen Brown, Jack Hersh, Keenan Ellis, Carter Ellis, Braden Ellis, Indiana Carter Passmore, Billy Galione, Mary Galione, Esther Galione, Katie Galione, Jon Galione, Taylor Nicole Rosen, Jacob Alan Rosen and Benjamin Michael Rose.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Terrance Miller and Phillip Miller; and sister, Barbara Kuntz.
Funeral services for Mary will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Steve Cole officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
