Martha's Story

Martha Lee (Robinson) York, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 1:07 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at St. Vincent Kokomo. She was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Bentonville, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ollie (Thomas) Robinson. On Jan. 5, 1946, she married Sterling "Shelton" York, who preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2002.
Martha was a graduate of Bentonville High School. She served with Oak Hill United School Corp. for 15 years as a bus driver. Martha was a lifelong member of Peru First Church of the Nazarene, and most recently Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene. She loved to play bingo at the Wellington, and she also looked forward to spending time with her children and grandchildren, who meant the world to her.
Martha is survived by her children, Darrell (Susann) York, Kokomo, Max York, McAllen, Texas, and Ronald (Kim) York, Kokomo; grandchildren, Jeff York (Nina), Boston, Massachusetts, Matt (Darcie) York, Kokomo, Michelle (John) Clendenning, Kokomo, Jeremy (Kari) Lennon, Flora, Jesse (Ashley) Lennon, Frankfort, Michael York, Wisconsin, Courtney Maywood, Tampa, Florida, Zach (Hibaru) Maywood, Los Angeles, California, Spencer York, Fort Wayne, and Alex Rojas, Wheeling, West Virginia; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Marlene York, Ruth York, and John York; granddaughter, Valerie York; and siblings, Odette Robinson, Charles Robinson, Boyd Robinson, Issac Robinson, and Ora Hadley.
Funeral services for Martha will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at First Church of the Nazarene, 2734 S. Washington St., Kokomo, with Pastor David Leeder officiating. Burial will follow in Amboy Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
