Leonard F. Surber Sr., 71, Kokomo, passed away at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Community Howard Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 16, 1945, in Tazwell, Tennessee, to Ewing Surber and Ivory (Ramsey) Surber. On July 17, 1964, he married Janice "Janny" A. Thompson. She preceded him in death July 4, 2002.
He graduated from Clinton Central High School in 1963. Leonard was a farmer his entire life working for Paul Davis, Robert Smith, then Maple Farms. He had served on the Johnson Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Swayzee Antique Tractor Club, and the Indiana Garden Tractor Pullers Association. His hobbies included garden tractor pulling and making lamps. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Leonard F. Jr. and wife Julie Surber, Russiaville; son, Bradley K. and wife Tina Surber, Kirklin; grandchildren, Alex D., Madison N., Tallon B., and Kortney A. Surber; sister, Ruth Aaron, Frankfort; sister, Helen Meisner, Alexandria; brother-in-law, Jon and wife Joy Thompson, Kokomo; brother-in-law, Chris Thompson, St. Augustine, Florida; brother-in-law, Thomas Eades, Sharpsville; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Wimmer, Russiaville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, William Earl Surber; sister-in-law, Jane Eades; and brothers-in-law, Max, Kevin and Mike Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Andrew Green officiating. Burial will follow in Kempton Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
