Judith Kay (Boyd) MacLean went peacefully to Heaven on Friday, July 7, 2017, after a courageous battle with dementia. She was 69 years old. Her husband and sister were by her side.
Judith was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on April 15, 1948. She was the first child of Robert E. Boyd and Dorane Jane (Hazelton) Burlison. She was a graduate of Kokomo High School in Kokomo, Indiana, and Indiana University. She retired from General Motors in 2004 after a 29-year career, starting in the Electronics Division in Kokomo, and retiring as a manager on the Corporate Labor Relations staff in Detroit, Michigan.
She enjoyed a myriad of outdoor activities, including boating on the Great Lakes and Lake Charlevoix, golfing, skiing, and scuba diving. She was a member of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Judith will be remembered as a kind-hearted, energetic and tenacious person who was at her best when serving others. She especially loved her five grandchildren whom she entertained by building indoor forts, taking them on boat trips, and organizing weeklong "camps" at her home in Charlevoix, Michigan. She treasured extended family gatherings with all of her siblings, nieces and nephews. Judy never stopped being the "big sister," caring deeply for her younger siblings.
Judith is survived by her husband of 21 years, Duncan MacLean; children, Duncan III (Jodi) MacLean, East Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Stacey (Greg) Noorman, Grandville, Michigan; grandchildren, Bradley (Chelsea), Duncan IV, Jacob, Catherine and David; siblings Jacquelyn (Gary) Zimpleman and James (Debbie) Boyd of Kokomo, Indiana, and Joanne (Vern) Sorenson of Brookston, Indiana, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Dale Hight (1966-2011); her father, Robert E. Boyd (1927-2002); and mother, Dorane Jane (Hazelton) Burlison (1926-2011).
The family extends special thanks to Liz and Geraldine for all of the special care and love in Judith's final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, 11330 Burnt Store Road, Punta Gorda, Florida, 33955.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating. The family will have a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., also on Saturday at the mortuary.
