Judith's Story

Judith L. "Judy" Bales, 72, Sharpsville, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at St. Vincent Kokomo. She was born Feb. 1, 1945, in Kokomo to Arthur and Eva Lucille (Ronk) Helton.
Judy worked as a co-owner/secretary for Bales Repair Service for 30 years, retiring in 2007. She was a volunteer for Tri-Central Youth Baseball League for many years and was actively involved in the activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a homemaker, a tremendous cook, a seamstress, and an avid reader. Of all her jobs, her favorite was that of mom, grandma, and sister. She attended Eastern High School and earned an associate degree in accounting from Ivy Tech Community College in 1993. She took great pride in her Native American heritage.
She is survived by her three sons, John R. "Rob" (Marcy) Bales, Sharpsville, James L. "Jimmie" (Carman) Bales, Sharpsville, and Jason L. (Stephanie) Bales, Tipton; nine grandchildren, Samantha Bales, Joshua Bales, Kaila Bales, Devin Bales, Robert Bales, Justin Bales, Nicholas Lorenc, Bryleigh Bales and Laynie Bales along with numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Ragon, Sharpsville, and Jan (Vern) McClish, Mission, Texas; one brother-in-law, Ed Dunlap, Greentown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Helton, Donald Helton, Forest Helton; sisters, Barb Dunlap, Wiladean Thurmond, Willette Helton and Patsy Sue Helton.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Vincent Kokomo for the tremendous care Judy received over the course of her illness.
Celebration of life services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Heartland Ministries, 3611 N. Indiana 19, Sharpsville, with long time neighbor, friend and pastor, the Rev. William Salsbery, officiating. Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Private graveside services will be at a later date at Sharpsville Cemetery.
