John W. Turner "Uncle Johnny," 94, Peru, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Visiting Nurse Hospice House in Fort Wayne. He was born March 3, 1923, to the late Cecil and Nellie (Copp) Turner. On July 29, 1943, he married the love of his life, Ocal Marie Fellows, and she preceded him in death June 7, 2005.
Uncle Johnny graduated from Windfall High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Army Air Force, where he served until 1945. Once he returned home, he was a farmer in eastern Howard and Miami counties for 15 years before working at Standard Pottery and finally retiring from Haynes Stellite in Kokomo. After his retirement, he went to work at Dillman Furniture and Rent-a-Trailer in Peru. Uncle Johnny volunteered for the American Red Cross for more than 10 years. He was also a member of Windfall Brethren Church and most recently Mexico Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his two loving sisters, Donna Kay Spieler, Sauk Village, Illinois, and Sharon Fay Dillman, Peru, and several special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by a brother, Walter R. Turner; nephew, Daniel D. Dillman; and niece, Ann L. Vaughn.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Riverview Funeral Home, 421 W. Canal St., Peru, with Pastors Matt Myers and Jeff Copp officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
