John Paul's Story
John Paul "Jack" Karabin, 87, Kokomo, passed away at 9:54 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. He was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Kokomo. He was the son of Joseph and Nellie (Percival) Karabin.
Jack was a 1947 graduate of Kokomo High School. He served with the United States Army, earning the rank of private first class. Jack served in Korea with the Artillery Division as a machine gunner. He retired from Stellite Corp. after 30 years of service. Jack was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 6, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a former member of the Moose and the Eagles Lodges. Jack enjoyed music, singing and songwriting, as well as singing in the church choir. He was an avid golfer, a collector of stamps, along with other miscellaneous things and loved to travel.
Jack is survived by his children, Robert Paul (Sandy) Karabin, Kokomo, James Laverne (Debbie) Karabin, Kokomo; grandchildren; brother, James William Karabin; and nephew, Erick Karabin; and adopted daughter, Jackie (Denzel) Widup.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Theresa Branch.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 3155 S. 200 West, with the Rev. Father Matthew Arbuckle the celebrant. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to pay their respects from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
