Retired Lt. Col. John Edward Lewis DuPouy, 92, of Kokomo passed peacefully on July 7, 2017, at Community Howard Regional Hospital.
John was born on June 16, 1925, in Summitville, Indiana, to his parents Paul and Gertrude DuPouy (Thurston).
John married the love of his life Cora B. DuPouy (Bowers) on Feb. 2, 1971.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years; children, Mark (Ruth) DuPouy, Kokomo, Cynthia (Jim) Richardson, Port Orange, Florida, Deborah Horton, Kokomo, Wendy (David) DiBlasi of Daytona Beach, Florida; step-children, Trisha Brooker, Greenwood, and Michael (Kathy) Grove, Bells, Texas. John is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews.
John retired from General Motors in 1975 after a career spanning 36 years, during which time he graduated with his bachelor's degree from General Motors Institute. He retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving proudly for 34 years. He owned and operated Dupouy Associates serving in tool and die industry. During his military career John flew many missions which grew his passion for flying and owning his own plane after retiring. Some of his other hobbies included golf, fishing, and farming. John loved to drive on his property in his "Mule" which he upgraded to a John Deere Gator. For many years he enjoyed farming to include growing corn and soybeans. For over 30 years he spent his winters in Florida with his beloved wife, Cora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene DuPouy; and sister, Phyllis Church.
Services will be held on Saturday July 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Ellers Mortuary Webster with Pastor Terry Bishir officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to service and Friday July 14 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with Military Honors.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project with envelopes available at the mortuary.
