James R. Affolter 80, died Monday, June 19, 2017, at the Clinton House in Frankfort, Indiana. He was born Aug. 6, 1936, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, to Homer Ronald Affolter and Olive (Metzger) Affolter. He married Hazel D. (Scott) Gunter on July 2, 1974, and she preceded him in death Sept. 2, 2016.
Jim was educated in Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S Air Force, serving from September 1954 to September 1957. He had worked at General Battery "Exide" in Frankfort for over 34 years. He was a member of the Michigantown Christian Church and enjoyed flea marketing and gardening.
Surviving Family include, two daughters, Linda (husband Bill) Dean, Frankfort, Marilyn (husband John) Amos, Michigantown; one son, Rick (wife Janie) Gunter, Frankfort; two sisters,Helen Calendine, Dover, Ohio, and Martha Dillon, New Philadelphia, Ohio; one brother, Eddy (wife Betty) Affolter,Troy, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Doris Affolter, Texas, Mary Goodwin, Frankfort, Millie Danner, Frankfort; eight grandchildren, Brenda (husband Jeff) Parker, Jenny (husband Randy) Sexton, Scott (wife LeeAnne) Lehr, Jessica (husband Travis) Lane, Andrhea (husband Brandon) Starkey, Jaclyn Dean, Derick (wife Amber) Amos, and Chalise (husband Matt) Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brooke, Tanner, Evan, J.T., Hayden, Wyatt, Makenzie, Nolan, Lacey, Colston, Kobi, Keelend, Kenna, Kohle, and Dagan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by parents: Homer R. Affolter and Olive (Metzger) Affolter; daughter, Brenda Monroe; brother, Benjamin Affolter; and three sisters, Doddie Bucher, Mary Calendine, and June Swonger.
Friends may visit 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Frankfort. Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Scott Lehr will officiate. Burial will follow the services in Bunnell Cemetery, Frankfort.
