Jack Lamoine Baxter, 93, Kokomo, passed away at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at Century Villa Healthcare in Greentown. He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Kokomo, the son of the late Leslie Earl and Mildred M. (Eads) Baxter. On May 18, 1946, in Kokomo, he married Phyllis Lea Coate, who preceded him in death Oct. 1, 2000.
Jack served in the United States Army Medical Corps in North Africa and India during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He retired from management at Continental Steel in 1977 after 36 years of service. Jack attended Highland Park Church. His love of construction allowed him to develop real estate in Kokomo for family and friends. Jack loved music and enjoyed attending park band concerts. He enjoyed the fellowship of his friends in the Ponderosa/Pizza Hut Coffee Club.
Jack is survived by his children, Jack L. (Rita) Baxter Jr., Columbus, Roger K. (Charlotte) Baxter, Portland, Oregon, Cheryl E. (Gordon) Wilber, Kokomo, and Lee Ann Williams, Kokomo; grandchildren, Scott (Shannon) Baxter, Dallas, Texas, Jennifer Weston, Columbus, Kelly (Jim) Moore, Centerville, Ohio, and Drew (Kim) Williams, Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandchildren, Brittany Baxter, Madison Baxter, Alanna Baxter, Mason Moore, Jillian Moore, Diane Moore, Logan Moore, and Morgan Williams; nephew, Leland (Bonnie) Baxter; and many relatives in the Coate family, whom he loved and cared deeply about.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Leland Baxter and Leslie Baxter; and sister, Venus Howard.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Ed Vasicek officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
