Gerald "Bud" Sottong, 76, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, quietly at his home in Tipton. He was born Sept. 20, 1940, in Tipton County, to Earl and Lousie (Clark) Sottong. On Dec. 8, 1961, Bud married Joyce Good and they had celebrated 55 years of marriage together.
Bud was a 1959 graduate of Tipton High School. He was a member of the Kemp United Methodist Church in Tipton, the Tipton Tractor Pull Association, Mid American Threshing and Antiques Show of Tipton County, and the Central Indiana Cub Fest.
Bud was a collector ... of things, many things. He collected full-size antique Farmall Cub Tractors and many Farmall-related toy tractors. His hobbies over the years included model trains and sprint car racing among many other interests. Bud really enjoyed his golf cart trips into town stopping along the way to visit with just about anyone who wanted to talk. Above all he treasured the times he spent with his family.
Bud was a lifelong Tipton County farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sottong; his son, Bill "Willard" and his wife Laura Sottong; and a son-in-law, Steve Mohr. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brent and his wife, Hollie Sottong, Nick Sottong and Meghan Sottong. Other survivors include his siblings, Ron (Judy) Sottong, Judy (Keith) Martin and Karen (Vic) Brown, and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Ann Mohr; a sister, Janet Burkhart; and a brother, Russell Sottong.
Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday April 25, 2017, at the Porter Funeral Home, 726 E. North St. in Tipton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday April 26, 2017, at Porter's. The Rev. Dr. Robb Roloff will be officiating. Interment will follow in Tipton's Fairview Cemetery.
