Gene R. Lorensberg, 69, a longtime resident of Windfall, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born July 17, 1947, in Roslyn, South Dakota, the son of Carl and Hazel (Johnson) Lorensberg.
Gene was a truck driver and worked in the warehouse for Trojan Seed Co. and Pfizer Inc. for many years, and later retired as a truck driver from Rosen's Corp. in 2011. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church in South Dakota. Gene was a 1965 graduate of Rosyln High School in South Dakota, and later attended Ivy Tech College for HVAC and electrical technology in 1983. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and was very proud of his service.
He married Jackie S. Procter on Nov. 4, 1972, and they shared over 44 years of marriage together. Gene was a member of the Tipton American Legion and formerly the Windfall American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. More than anything, Gene loved and was devoted to all of his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Gene's family includes wife, Jackie S. Lorensberg, Windfall; son, Brian D. Lorensberg, Kokomo; three sisters, Marjorie (husband Marvin) Dahl, Walla Walla, Washington, Arlette Jensen, Roslyn and Yvonne Fitzpatrick, Spokane, Washington; brother, Charles (wife Polly) Lorensberg, Windfall; father and mother-in-law, Murice and Anna Procter, Elwood; sisters-in-law, Kathryn (husband Gary) Wilson, Elwood, and Deborah (husband Ted) Moser, Elwood; his special cat, Penny; and several nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Scott Lorensberg and Daniel Lorensberg; two sisters, Leona Deutsch and an infant sister; and three brothers-in-law, Arnie Deutsch, Donald Jensen, and Tom Fitzpatrick.
A funeral service celebrating Gene's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood, with the Rev. Carl Roudebush, Windfall Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall, and will include military honors by the U.S. Army and Elwood VFW Honor Guard. Visitation for family and friends will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
