Freida's Story

Freida L. Grabbe, 93, Kokomo and formerly of Walton, went home to be with the Lord at 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at The Wellington in Kokomo. She was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Sullivan County, Indiana, to Edward and Myrtle (Gore) Elwood. She married Elmer E. Grabbe on June 28, 1941, in Caledonia, Michigan, and he preceded her in death Feb. 15, 2001.
Frieda was a bookkeeper for several lumberyards over the years. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Kokomo and attended Blue Ball Church in Walton in her later years. She was also a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Logansport. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading music, Bible studies, traveling to the Holy Land, and most importantly, playing games with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving family include her son, David L. (Carolyn) Grabbe, Kokomo; daughter, Joyce E. (Edward) Gunderson, Morrison, Colorado; daughter, Phyllis A. (Ron) Babb, Bradenton, Florida; 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Wayne Grabbe, Odon, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Harlan Bowers; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother; and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, with Pastor Keith Treadway officiating. Burial will follow at Hoover Snider Cemetery near Young America. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Reflections at the Wellington in Kokomo or Bible Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to all the staff at Reflections at the Wellington for their excellent care of Frieda.
