Eva Elzina (Wysong) Hendershot, 93, Kokomo, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, surrounded by loved ones in her daughter's home. She was born July 15, 1923, in Kokomo, the daughter of the late George Monroe and Gladys (Kelly) Wysong. On Feb. 25, 1943, she married Robert Leslie Hendershot, who preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1981.
Eva was a very hard worker her whole life. She attended Kokomo High School and at an early age, began her working career at Kokomo Opalescent Glass, where she made marbles. Eva then spent 32 years working at Cabot/Haynes International, retiring March 1, 1981.
Throughout her lifetime, she was a very active woman. In her younger years, Eva and her sister, Ethel, were avid roller-skaters. She was a lifetime member with the VFW Post 1152 in the Ladies Auxiliary. Eva was very independent and enjoyed many things, including traveling, cooking, playing bingo, talking politics, watching the Cubs, and IU basketball games. She also loved spending time at the ballparks with her grandkids and was very devoted to both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Up until the end, Eva had a feisty personality and a strong sense of self that is evident in her legacy.
Eva is survived by her brother, Bill Wysong, Kokomo; daughters, Karen (Allan) Francis, Port Charlotte, Florida, Sharon (Thurman) Denman, Kokomo, and Roberta "Birdie" (John Allen) Meeks; grandchildren, Brent (Dawn) Davis, Kokomo, Jennifer (Michael) Van Horn, Kokomo, Scott (Rachel) Parrett, Noblesville, Chad (Erin) Gillem, Kokomo, and Matt (Brooke) Meeks, West Lafayette; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Van Horn, Brittany Davis, Abigail Van Horn, Kirby Meeks, Mitchell Van Horn, Ozzie Meeks, Owen Parrett, Ashlyn Gillem, Baylin Gillem, and Tucker Meeks; stepgreat-grandchildren, Uriah, and Isaac Whetzell, along with many nieces, nephews, and special niece and best friend, Ramona Foust, Kokomo.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Helen Mills, and Ethel Bogan, and brothers, Earl, Diz, Fred, and Dick Wysong.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Vincent's Hospice for the exceptional care from Mindy (R.N.), Sara, and Brooke.
