Darle Gene Azbell, 74, Peru, passed away at home Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, after a courageous three-month battle with brain cancer. He was born May 30, 1943 in Denver, Indiana, to the late Thurman and Lova Snyder Azbell.
He was a graduate of Rochester High School in 1961 and worked at Delphi Electronics, Kokomo, for 32 years until his retirement in 2005.
He was mechanically gifted and loved to work with his hands. He was handy to have around, and he was always willing to help others. He enjoyed playing euchre with the Card Club, riding motorcycle with the Cycle Gang and playing golf with his friends. He also loved fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He was funny, determined, independent and had a strong competitive spirit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Darle is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Sue Alspach Azbell; sons, Darle "Gene" (Weina) Azbell Jr. and Jeffrey Todd Azbell; grandchildren, Joshua Todd (Courtney) Azbell, Jocelyn Azbell, Sydney Azbell, and Nicholas Azbell; stepgrandchildren, Joe and Hayley Townsend; great-grandson, Jack Todd Azbell, all of Peru; brother, Wendell (Carol) Azbell, North Vernon, and Janet "Dolly" Ballinger, Rochester; sister-in-law, Berdene Azbell, Rochester, and Grace Azbell, North Manchester; brother-in-law, William (Susan) LeiII, Laingsburg, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Darle was preceded in death by brothers, Merrill Azbell, North Manchester, Harold "Dean" Azbell, Maurice Azbell and sister, Ruth (William) Green, all of Rochester; sister-in-law, Betty (Jim) Black and Patricia Campbell, both of Peru.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, followed by a memorial service from 7 to 8 p.m. at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St., Peru. Burial will take place at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
