Dale L. Schafer, 93, Kokomo, received his eternal reward at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Miller's Merry Manor in Marion. He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Howard County (Howard Township) to the late Edwin and Fern (Gardner) Schafer, and he lived most of his life in the Kokomo area.
Dale graduated from Howard Township High School in 1943. He worked in sales for Sears-Roebuck, Volkswagen, Lincoln-Mercury, and Asgrow Seed Co., and was also a farmer. Dale held his church membership at Nelson Street Wesleyan in Marion and was a long-time member of the National Rifle Association.
Dale was a special friend to Mary Rosalie Maddox for 37 years, and she survives, along with her children and their families. He is also survived by friend, Gerald (Mary) Riley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Donna Mae Schafer, Annabelle Jordan, and Rosemary Tucker; and three brothers, Robert O. Schafer, Phillip Lee Schafer and Harold J. Schafer.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Dale's funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, Indiana. Entombment will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Mausoleum, 2097 W. Alto Road.
