Charles David Smith, 70, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2017, in Ocala, Florida. Cause of death was pneumonia and complications from Parkinson's Disease. David was born in Kokomo, Oct. 3, 1946, the son of Charles L. and Nada K. (Miller) Smith, who preceded him in death.
A 10-year veteran of the Indiana National Guard, longtime purchasing manager at Armstrong Landon Lumber, member of Fairview Baptist Church, graduate of KHS and of the IUK associate degree program, David was a resident until 1991 when he and wife Janice Fleenor Smith relocated.
Friends and family fondly remember David as the family chef and for the wonderful gatherings he hosted at their New London home. David and Janice were married in Kokomo July 1, 1967, and had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Surviving David are wife, Janice; sisters, Suzie (Mrs. Mike Burger), Lebanon, Tennessee, Connie (Mrs. Dan Eutsler), Anderson; honorary brother, Jeff Oakley, Kokomo; and nieces and nephews, Joe and B.J. Fleenor, Kokomo, Christy (Mrs. Kevin Troyano), Safety Harbor, Florida, Kathy (Mrs. Sean Opel), Sanford, Florida, Sarah Eutsler, Anderson, Andrew Burger, Watertown, Tennessee, and Michael Burger, Farragut, Tennessee.
David's ashes are to be scattered in the Smoky Mountains. His spirit is already with God. Plans for a gathering of friends and family will be announced in the next few weeks.
