Charlene's Story

Text size

Charlene Gresley, 77, Kokomo, was born in Fresno, California, on Feb. 28, 1940, but spent most of her life as a resident of Kokomo, Indiana. On Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at 5:10 a.m. at St. Vincent Hospital of Kokomo, Charlene left her earthly body to join her beloved husband and father in her Lord's heavenly home.
While Charlene's early life was often filled with loneliness, sadness and unhappiness, her father, Charles Gillespie, was able to come back into her life and taught her the wonders of having a happy home life and the joy of being herself. Her love for dogs and horses developed during these tender years and remained a key component the rest of her life. On April 8, 1988, Charlene married Raymond Gresley, the love of her life, and their marriage lasted until his death in April 2001.
Charlene was well-known in Kokomo as she worked at Continental Steel, Catholic Charities, Accurate Parts and Century Villa until retiring in 1989. She was a member of Equiventure and volunteered as a driver for American Cancer Society, Road to Recovery, and transported children to Riley Hospital until her health deteriorated and she was unable to continue as a volunteer. Besides her work and volunteer work, her creative side allowed her to share beautiful bouquets with friends and family. In her later years, she took up jewelry making and produced beautiful necklaces, earrings and bracelets that she shared with family and friends.
Charlene Gresley is survived by her adopted family and many friends. "Auntie Chene" will be sadly missed by her special families, Bill and Judy Hecht, Junior Wilson (and his dog Tank), Willis and Juanita Hecht, and Belinda Hecht; special nieces and nephews, Amy Chapel (and her dog Zora), Terry, Sharon and Hannah Chapel, Heather, Matt, Jocelynn, Preston and Carter White, Dawn and Joe Haynes, Olivia and Brandon Gates, Brian and (Carol Harbaugh) Hecht, Brad and Brailey Hecht, Megan and Bentley Beckner, Kathleen, Micah, Gabe, Suzanne, Noeah and Iliah Morley, Josh, Cherie, Allie and Roxie Wilson, Jason, Katie and Liam Wilson; Misty, Dylan and Brandon Muse, Nathan Moctezuma and Nichole Davilla; Other loved ones, Jim and Pam Wilson, Kenny and Teresa Wilson, Gene and Joyce Wilson, Keith and Karon Wilson and Donna and Benny Beckner; special friends, Gail Beaton, Bonnie Flynn at Equiventure, and Charles (Tiny) Nelson, who planted special tomatoes "just for her."

Special appreciation to Dr. Eric Tuchscherer for his many years of loving and caring service.
