Barbara Collins, 81, passed with peace and grace on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, with her family by her side. She was born in 1935, the daughter of Carl and Mary Miller.
She had lived her entire life in Kokomo. Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Kokomo High School. On Feb. 11, 1956, she married her soul mate of 57 years, Patrick Collins at St. Patrick Catholic Church, and he is deceased.
After marrying Patrick, she threw her energies into raising their five children and assisting her husband in his various businesses over the years, including the Collins Music Inc., Collins Industrial Warehouse, and Ace Sign Co. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and was involved in many church committees. She enjoyed meeting with the ladies of the St. Patrick widow group.
She is survived by sons, Jeffery (Diana) Collins and Michael Collins; daughters, Karen Lewis and Kathleen "Kathi" (Steve) Stewart, all of Howard County; sister, Marilyn (Donald) Wappel, Howard County; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Patrick; her parents; sister, Sandra Miller; son, Gary Collins; brother, Carl Miller; and grandson, Andrew Collins, all of Kokomo.
She had a love for teaching and helping others. She had hopes that she could continue this even after her soul left this earth. Her body has been donated for medical research and will travel to different medical colleges over the next 18 to 24 months. A special thanks goes to Indiana University Anatomical Education Program for helping us continue her legacy.
Barbara will always be remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many whose greatest passion and joy was her family and friends.
A memorial Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Father Brian Dudzinski as the officiant. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be a private burial for the family at a later date.
The family wishes to thank St. Vincent Hospice, especially Jenny and Mindy, for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent Hospice, 311 S. Berkley Road, Kokomo, IN 46901; Indiana University Anatomical Education Program, 635 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202; or the charity of your choice.
She leaves us rich memories.
