Arthur Leo Skidmore, 70, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at St. Vincent Kokomo. Arthur was born to Lewis and Freda Skidmore in Ava, Illinois, on July 20, 1946. On April 23, 1977, he married Susan Kay (Glassburn) Skidmore. They were married for 19 years. She preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2016.
Art was a semi driver for 35 years. He worked for various trucking companies, including Syndicate Sales as well as Trilinear Corp. He had participated in several truck rodeos, in which he won several awards and trophies and received recognition for safety and for Millions of Miles accident-free.
He served our country in the United States Army for four years. He did a tour in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He had earned the rank of sergeant and gained knowledge and experience as a wireman during his service. He also earned his high school education at that time.
Art is survived by his daughters, Lisa J. Skidmore (fiancee Angelia Brown) and Jenny R. Short (fiancee Chris Schwartz); grandchildren, Jupiter A. Short, Jalen A. Short and Graison R. McGrath; a brother, Michael Spinner (Debbie); a host of nieces and nephews; a mother-in-law, "Ma" Zonia R. Woods; and very dear friends, Tommy and Patricia Brown.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan; his parents; several siblings; and a father-in-law, Robert L. Woods.
Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, April 24, at Ellers Main Street Chapel. A funeral service will follow at noon, officiated by Pastor Tony Manis. Arthur will be laid to rest in Marion National Cemetery at 2 p.m. that day.
