Anita's Story

Anita A. (Harris) Dietzen, 81, Kokomo, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017. She was born Sept. 13, 1935, in Kokomo, the daughter of F. Joseph and A. Constance (Phillips) Harris. On Aug. 13, 1955, in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo, she married Cornelius E. Dietzen, who preceded her in death Sept. 20, 2002.
Anita was a 1953 graduate of the St. Joseph Academy in Tipton. She was an active member of St. Patrick Church, and the Rosary Sodality. Anita enjoyed helping with funeral dinners, and served as a Eucharist minister, taking Communion to shut-ins. She volunteered at the school for several years as a gym teacher. Anita and her husband opened their home to 150 children as foster parents for 20 years. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her world-famous caramels.
Anita is survived by her children, Julie (Randy) Tennent, Kokomo, Dr. Chuck Dietzen, Zionsville, Angela (Joseph "Ken") Patterson, Kokomo, Vince Dietzen (Kasie Kelly), Kokomo, and Connie Tishner (Scott Tidd), Frankfort; daughter-in-law, Susan Dietzen, Kokomo; grandchildren, Randy Tennent (Lindsay Nantroup), Eddie Dietzen (Megan Myers), Shannon (Jay) Powell, Wade Dietzen, Haley Dietzen (Chris Sedberry), Ceyrstin Thomas, Ceyanne Thomas, Tanner Tishner, Kennedy Tishner, Jordyn Kelly, and Valerie Dietzen; great-grandchildren, Riley Powell and Jace Powell; siblings, David (Chester) Harris, Michael (Juanita) Harris, Mark (Ferron) Harris, Timothy Harris, Mary Connie (Phil) Schrepferman, Cynthia (Dan) Ayres, Debbie Harris, and Ruth Stout; and many nieces and nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Timmy Dietzen and Tony Dietzen; and brothers, Greg Harris, Bill Harris, Joe Harris, and Steve Harris.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday, April 7, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Fathers David Huemmer and Ambrose Ziegler the concelebrants. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, where the Rosary will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
