Alford Eugene Strange, 80, went to be with the Lord at 5 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017. He was born to William Isaac and Janie (Chambers) Strange on Feb. 12, 1937, in Dandridge, Tennessee. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1960 to 1962. On March 21, 1970, he married Ann Appleby-Szabo. Mr. Strange worked for 23 years at Cuneo Press and 21 years at Haynes International before his retirement.
Mr. Strange was a member of the Northview Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a longtime member of the Central Labor Council. He was past president of Haynes International Local No. 2958. He was President of Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees. (S.O.A.R.)
Mr. Strange is survived by his wife, Ann; sons, Ronald (wife Jody), Bryan Strange, Bob (wife Kathy) and Lee Szabo; daughter, Scarlet Szabo (husband Terry) Curts; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Strange will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday June 22, 2016, at Northview Christian Church, 2059 N. 100 East. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
