Alan's Story

Alan Scott Richter, 53, Kokomo, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his home. He was born June 7, 1963, in South Bend, to William and Joy (Bolen) Richter. On March 25, 1995, he married Lisa Hillis, who survives.
A 1981 Taylor High School graduate, Alan went on to attend Ball State. He was employed with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Kokomo for more than 20 years. Alan was a life member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and enjoyed reading and bike riding. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and positive demeanor. A gentle soul, Alan was a friend to all and influenced many with his patience and calm acceptance of all that came his way. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and an excellent example to his children.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Richter; son, Brother Eliseus of the Mother of God "Joseph" Richter; daughter, Emily Marie Richter; brother, William (Dianna) Richter Jr.; sister, Andrea (Tom) Abney; brother-in-law, Gregg (Jann) Hillis; sister-in-law, Marianne Alexander; as well as many loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Joy Richter and his father- and mother-in-law, Donald and Lois Hillis.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Pfeifer, Southern Care Hospice, especially Renae, Terri, Nicole, and Rita, as well as special friend, Terrie Phillips, for the loving care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. County Road 200 West, with the Rev. Father Matthew Arbuckle the celebrant. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road where the Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m.
