William Emory Symons, 87, Greentown, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Century Villa Healthcare in Greentown. He was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Howard County, the son of the late Dee J. and Helen (Hood) Symons.
William was a 1948 graduate of Greentown High School. He was active in sports, especially baseball, winning Howard County three years in a row. William retired in 1985 from Delco Electronics and was a member of UAW Local #292. After retirement, he painted the interiors of homes. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, mushroom hunting and traveling to every state, but one.
William married Helen Kendall and they were blessed with three children, William "Bill" (Karen) Symons, Susan (Ramon) Cassis and James Symons; along with eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild due in the fall. He later married Dorothy Crawford and welcomed stepdaughters, Veda (Alan) Popelka, Kokomo, Ronda (Russell) Adolph, Seminole, Florida, and Sherry (Shanks) Glaze, Kokomo; six stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Carolyn (Larry) Seagraves.
William was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Symons; and stepson, Roger Guthrie.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017, at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main Street, Greentown, with Pastor Russell Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
