Walter Wilhelm Balg

Walter Wilhelm Balg, 92, passed away April 1, 2019, in Kokomo. Walter was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Rheydt, Germany, to the late Karl and Katharina Balg.
Walter joined the German Army during World War II and became a prisoner of war. In 1965, Walter came to the United States and gained citizenship on March 6, 1979. On July 19, 1975, Walter was married to the love of his life, Kathleen (Petterson), at Community Bible Church in Greentown, Indiana. Kathleen preceded Walter in passing on Sept. 25, 2018. Walter had co-owned Dick and Walt's Foreign Car Repair in Kokomo, and worked there as a mechanic until his retirement on July 31, 1990.
Walter was a devout Catholic, and enjoyed playing Christian hymns on the organ. He also enjoyed socializing with his neighbors while outside, and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and the Indianapolis Colts. Above all, Walter loved traveling with Kathleen to European countries, and to Tennessee.
Walter is survived by many nephews and nieces, and his stepson, Frederick "Bill" (Stephanie) Miller.
In addition to his parents and wife, Walter was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
There will be a visitation for Walter from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, immediately followed by a funeral service.
