Violet Rice, 86, of Avon, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, in Danville, Indiana. She was born Dec. 4, 1931, to the late Arlin Eugene and Althy Ruby (Taylor) Bailey in Lilbourn, Missouri.
Violet's first marriage was to Ken Steigerwald, and they later divorced. She then married Jerry Rice, and he preceded her in death. While living in Kokomo, Violet attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She loved working on puzzles, reading books, and traveling to beaches. Violet also adored her cats, Cuddles and Minnie.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Kevin) Cantrell; granddaughter, Kelsey (Maxwell Pera) Cantrell; grandson, Kyle Cantrell; great-grandson, Nicolis Pera; and three nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Violet was preceded in death by her three siblings, Elbert Bailey, Eloise Querry, and Joe Bob Bailey; her stepmother, Clara Davis Bailey; and her stepbrother, Max (Becky) Adams.
A public visitation for Violet will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following. Violet will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Violet's name may be made to the Humane Society of Hendricks County.
