Victor's Story

Victor A. Harper, 91, Greentown, passed away at 10:33 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at his home. He was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Howard County, the son of Howard and Grace (Ball) Harper. On March 31, 1961, he married Vera L. Harper, who preceded him in death Dec. 28, 2016.
Vic was a 1943 graduate of Jackson Township High School. He worked for H.K. Carr as a well driller and plumber. Vic then worked for the Greentown Water Works. He also drove for Brad Howell Ford for many years. Vic was a World War II veteran, serving in the Philippines, and was a member of the American Legion Post 317. He was a lifetime member of the Sycamore Friends Church. Vic served on the board of directors for White's Institute in Wabash. He enjoyed gardening and growing roses.
Vic is survived by his sons, Larry Langley (companion, Charline Webb), Elwood, and James (Bobette) Harper, Greentown; daughter, Vickie (Jeff) Simons, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Craig (Wendi) Langley, Walton, Jody (Tim) Leas, Montpelier, Bryan Harper (companion, Lori Blair), West Lafayette, Dan (Courtney) Harper, Leesburg, Jill (Chris) Ertel, Converse, Holly Bohle, Houston, Texas, Jennefer (Greg) Wheeler, Baker, Montana, Johnna (Darin) Koenig, Baker, Montana; siblings, Sue (Gene) Alexander, Converse, and Tom (Shirley) Harper, Greentown, Dale (Janie) Harper, Greentown; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Vic was preceded in death by his wife, Vera L. Harper; son, Jerry Lee Pratt; sisters, Mary Smeltzer, Mildred Pence, Candace Simpson, Frances Marshall, and Betty Charlotte Harper; and brothers, George Harper, Harold Harper and Bill Harper.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Sycamore Friends Church, 1148 N. 1100 East, Greentown, with Jesse Vore officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
