Vernon's Story

Vernon Milton Pickett, 91, Noblesville, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. Born Oct. 19, 1926, in Jennings County, he was the son of Alva and Bertha Wilson Pickett. He married Charlotte Harding on June 24, 1949, in North Vernon. She survives.
Mr. Pickett worked as an industrial engineer for General Motors in Kokomo for 34 years. He was a 1944 graduate of North Vernon High School and received an associate degree from Purdue University. Mr. Pickett served in the U. S. Navy from December 1943 until June 1946
Surviving with his wife of 68 years, Charlotte, are sons, Larry (Maureen) Pickett, Kokomo and Gary Pickett, Bunker Hill; daughters, Marilyn Gipson, Noblesville, Linda (Dan) Randall, Kokomo, Diana (Doug) Stevens, Springfield, Ohio, and Debbie (Mark) Deisch, Kempton, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Monica Pickett, five brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service for Mr. Pickett will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from noon until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with military graveside rites.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to donor's choice of charity.
