Treva's Story

Treva Lucille (Pence) Surface, 94, Kokomo, passed away Sunday May 21, 2017, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. She was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Converse, the daughter of the late, James M. and Mary (Landrum) Pence. She married Chester L. Surface, who preceded her in death July 26, 2003.
Treva graduated from Amboy High School. Before World War II, Treva worked for Reliance making safety gloves. She also had been employed with the USDA where she worked with her husband, Chester. Treva enjoyed sewing, reading, and traveling. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Treva always had a smile on her face, and will be forever missed by all who knew her.
Treva is survived by her sons, James L. (Sandy) Surface, Walton, Robert L. Surface, Kokomo, and Richard L. Surface, Peru; grandchildren, Troy (Joyce) Surface, Wyndi (John) Thompson, Lisa (Bill) Stafford, Teresa (Keith) McBride, Rita (Ted) Tattersall, Chris (Heather) Surface and Elizabeth (Craig) Jernagan; several great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and sisters, Joanna Nichols, Dorothy Jones, Merlaya Heckman, Maureen Yount and Betty Murphy.
Treva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Lewis J. "Bus" Pence, and Ted Pence.
