Thomas Wayne Kempf, 84, formerly of Crawfordsville, went to be with his Lord on Monday morning, Jan. 8, 2018, in Kokomo. Born Feb. 7, 1933, in Delphi, he was the son of the late Paul and Margaret (Long) Kempf. He married Ruby M. Hathaway at Delphi on Feb. 28, 1954. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2006.
He graduated from Delphi High School, class of 1951. He later attended Bob Jones University and Taylor University. Thomas served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He worked for Alcoa prior to being employed by Indiana Gas (now Vectren), retiring in 1998. He later worked for CVS.
Having been a member of Kossuth St. Baptist Church in Lafayette, Friendship Baptist Church and East Side Baptist Church in Crawfordsville, he was very active as the song leader and choir director as well as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
He enjoyed being with his family, reading, playing badminton and was a sports fan, especially Purdue.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Sue (David) Atkisson, Kokomo; sons, Jerry (Cec) Kempf, Crawfordsville, Joel Kempf, Denver, Colorado; daughter, Dawn (Joe) Hieston, Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services with military rites will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at East Side Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Steve Whicker along with son Joel Kempf. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
