Thelma I. Long


Thelma I. Long, 95, of Kokomo, passed away at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at Northwoods Village. Thelma was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee, on Jan. 18, 1923, to Marion and Ollie (Brooks) Woodard. Her marriage to James Edward Long was on June 5, 1943. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2009.
Thelma was a homemaker, but also had done in-home healthcare. She was a member of Honey Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Russiaville, and Colburn Road Baptist Church, Delphi. She was very active being a pastor's wife. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening and going to auctions.
Survivors include sons, Wayne Long (Elaine), Boyd Long (Pearl), David Long (Carolyn), and Rickey Long; and a daughter, Glenda Minton; along with 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-Law, Ruby Ellis and Mary Wimmer; nieces, Margie Whittaker, Connie Weaver and Carolyn Snow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Effie Brooks, Lealie Martin, Flossie Yeary, and Leslie Muncie; brothers, Elmer Woodard and Willard Woodard; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Cliff Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to We Care of Kokomo. Online condolences may be made at
