Steven Kent Johnson

Steven Kent Johnson, 72, of Lincoln City, Oregon, went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2019. He passed peacefully with his daughter by his side, holding his hand. Steven was born Nov. 10, 1946, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Scott W. Johnson and Mary Ellen Johnson.
Steven was one of eight children. He loved to tell fond memories of growing up on the farm in Indiana and remained a farm boy at heart his whole life. Steve attended school in Kokomo, Indiana, and graduated from Lewis Cass High School. On Oct. 4, 1965, he married his sweetheart, Vicki Thompson. They were young, but so in love. They went on to welcome their first son, Troy, in 1966, Todd in 1970, and daughter Jill in 1974.
Steve served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969. He was proud to serve his country. Steve worked for Continental Steel Corp. in Kokomo, Indiana, until its closing in 1986. He bravely left Indiana in 1986 to start a new life for his family in Las Vegas, Nevada. There, Steve worked for the City of Las Vegas as a corrections officer up until his retirement. His daughter, Jill, and son-in-law moved their family in 2004 to Oregon, and Steve and Vicki shortly followed to set up their retirement dream home in Lincoln City. Since then the whole family has made the trek to Oregon, which he proudly called home. He loved his family more than anything.
He is survived by his forever love of 53 years, Vicki. He is also survived by his son, Troy, of Newport, Oregon; son, Todd, and his fiancée, Linea, of Eugene, Oregon; and daughter, Jill, and son-in-law Ladd, of Eugene, Oregon. He is survived by his four grandchildren, whom he loved so much and was known as Papa to them, Jackson Boyce, Steven Johnson (his namesake), Jade Boyce and Savannah Johnson. They were his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Scott W. Johnson; mother, Mary Ellen Johnson; brothers, Dann Johnson, Mike Johnson; and sister, Cindy Prough.
He is survived by his sisters, Judy Black, Katherine Simpson, Nancy Ehrman, and brother, Bob Johnson, of Kokomo, Indiana. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Some bright morning when this life is over, I'll fly away. To that home on God's celestial shore, I'll fly away. Fly high, Dad, we love you so.
A special thank-you to Samaritan Hospice in Lincoln City, Oregon, and Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, Oregon, for their wonderful care during this difficult time. We will be forever grateful.

Went to school with Steve, and lived next door to Vicki for a couple of years. Lovely people. So sorry for your loss. May God bless and keep you.
