Shirley Sargent Fipps, 92, Kokomo, passed away at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018. She was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Kokomo to Orvile and Mable (Jarvis) Sargent. Shirley married Elmer E. "Bud" Fipps Jr. on July 15, 1949, in Kokomo. He preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1985.
In 1944 Shirley graduated from Kokomo High School. She retired in 1994 as a secretary in the administrative building for the Kokomo-Center Schools. She was a longtime member of Northview Christian Church.
Those surviving Shirley are her son, Kim S. Fipps; brother, Robert (Judy) Sargent; daughter-in-law, Deborah Fipps; grandchildren, Charity Fipps (Alex Smithers), Stephany (Travis) Dishon, Zach Fipps, Adam (Andrea) Fipps, and Ashley Fipps. She is also survived by great-grandson, Nathiah; two nieces, Sally Sargent, Polly (Brad) Bray; two nephews, Dan (Tracey) Sargent, Scott (Janelle) McCoy; and several extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer, son Kevin Fipps, sister Sandra Sargent, and nephew Mike Sargent.
Memorial contributions may be made to Northview Christian Church, with envelopes available at the mortuary.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, with Pastor Chuck Armstrong officiating. Family and friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery.
