Sara Anne Maze, 80, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, and founder of Good Energy Foods, passed from this life Thursday, July 27, 2017, at home surrounded by family and friends. Sara was born Thursday, Nov. 5, 1936, in Galveston, Indiana, daughter of the late Sherman Maze and Sarah Sprinkle Maze. She was formerly married to Professor Will Gartmann, who survives in Elkins.
Also left to cherish her memory are her four children, Sara Lazari, Katherine Gartmann, Alexander Gartmann and Christian Gartmann; seven grandchildren, George and Demetri Lazari, Juliet Bell, Caleb, William and Nicholas Gartmann and Aidyn Gartmann; two great-grandchildren, Sara Ann Estelle and George Andrew Lazari; and one brother, Craig Maze.
Sara obtained her bachelor's degree in anthropology at Indiana University. She was a pioneer in the early days of health food, and as the owner of Good Energy Foods in Elkins for 40 years, a respected business woman in the community. A devoted mother and grandmother, Sara enjoyed gardening, reading, folk music, knitting, bookclub and morning coffee with friends at Scottie's.
Sara's request for cremation was honored and inurnment will take place at a later date in a family cemetery in Indiana.
